I agree but complete removal of county quota is almost impossible ...diversity is just a name !!! US political system in super advanced in many ways(US contitution was written centuries ago and is much better than Indian ..remember the foreigner becoming PM issue and multi party mess that India has) ..my guess would be that country quota limits were introduced to prevent one country nationals from becoming a eventual majority . ofcourse the migration from south Am is another issue)

Is it accurate to say that new way of allocating spill over visas effectively acheive same effect as eliminiating country limits?
I suppose the new way of allocation has similar effect to eliminating country limits within a category i.e. EB1 or EB2 or EB3 but not across the board

Why do you have to resort to calling names ? Are ad hominem arguments the best you could come up with ? Let me give you an analogous case wherein people say that a recession is a good thing. Recession occurs in order to cleanse the economy of bohemian excesses and inefficiencies. Do you think that such people are sadists and belong to the mental asylum ? Of course there are people who get affected in a recession. Does it mean it is not desired ? In a similar vein, you need to understand that there were and are huge gaping inefficiencies in the current immigration process. There has to be a way to curb these excesses and inefficiencies. Retrogression may not be the best way but it is the only way utilized right now. If you still believe that I have to subscribe to these inefficiencies despite having gone through the immigration process, I am sorry I beg to differ.
This attitude was the reason, it took India a lot of time to get freedom from British. Then lot many nobel indians thought British invasion was good for India..

There's two themes in this thread that are interesting.

Luck is a strange animal -- it lets you see the map of the world in your handheld, but won't let you travel freely because of retrogression.

It is not very relevant here, but here's the story: A wise man came to a village and observed a family living in great poverty. All the family had was a cow and a sack of grain. I am not a Tamil or Singalese. We cannot say Tamils went to Lanka and asking for homeland. The truth is both Tamils and Singalese migrated from India. May be Tamils went to Lanka before the Singalese. LTTE is a terrorist organization, but it gained popularity because of Singalese neglect of Tamils. I don't think the problem can be resolve through military means. The war will change from conventional to gorrilla within this year.

The VIP culture and the sense of entitlement in India is sickening :mad: I would understand if George Fernandes had raised a fuss since he was travelling as a diplomat, but SRK is pure dung!! No one is going to fall for or accept this type of torn shirt, open fly argument. Retrogression is caused by insufficient GC numbers and worsened for some countries due to the country caps. The fact that there is corruption in India or any of the other random reasons you are trotting out in no way mitigates the fact that people are being forced to wait after fulfilling all of the qualifying criteria set forth by the US government.

We are thinking about applying for canadian PR. Should we include our son (US citizen) in the application? or do US citizens get to reside in Canada without visa?
Also, currently my company is processing my GC, will this be affected if we apply for canadian PR?
US citizens can come in and stay in canada as a tourist for temporary purposes, but you need a Canadian PR for longer stays. So YES, add your son in your application. Your US-Gc application is not affected by processing canadian PR or vice-versa.

I am the primary application on my I-485 EB2. I have a valid AP. With the massive time it is taking to get the GC, I am considering working in India - with same employer; same salary. Can I do it and come back into the US while AP is valid?

I spoke to two immigration attorneys about how this may affect pending I-140 cases with the USCIS and this is the reply I received:

I am aware of the proposed rule (and the DOL link you sent me). But this applies only to pending labor certification applications and to approved labor certification applications not yet filed with USCIS. Neither one of these situations applies in your case. Of course the elimination of substitution is a proposed rule only and no one can tell exactly if and when and how the final rule will come out.

Highly unlikely that this change would affect a case that was already filed.
Just to be safe I will request to convert to PP.

great to see someone welcoming immigrants. My wife is a dentist, licensed in one state of the USA. However she does not have a US DDS. She was licensed by the state as she has great experience and she passed all the tests needed. She has been very well practising dentistry for almost 2.5-3 years now in the US. However, Canada does not let internationally trained dentists get licensed without going to Canadian/American dental school. If you know of any place in CA which would license my wife as she has more than 7 years of exp (4+in India, alomst 3 in USA) and had passed all exams (Board, licensing etc etc), please let me know. That is the single most imp reason for me to still hang im here.

It is an honor that you folks choose my country to live in.
Temporarily, or permanent, I hope it works out.
Every country has its warts. (Mine has them too) but the immigrants to a country are what give it life.
For the Doctors, check out some rural areas various provinces. I think they have programs that ease the regulatory burden.

Best of luck...sri lankan sinhalese and sri lankan tamils...I hope you can accept each other's perspectives and move away from extreme positions.sri lanka is such a beautiful country. i hope i can visit again and explore the northern areas..here's wishing peace with dignity (not subjugation) for all.
If you talk to a Sri Lankan tamil - they are under the impression that Sinhalese people are barbaric and we cannot live with them in peace. If you talk to Sinhalese they say the same.
The thing is - it is difficult to change people's views and opinions. The whole thing about history and religion and discussing what people did thousands of years back and why people are killing now and linking things is just an example of how a human mind is oriented.
We can clap only if two hands join. If one part seeks peace and the other does not - then it is not as easy as we all preach.
Lets take the example of how difficult it is for us to get any legislation passed to help clear our backlogs and resolve our issues. Now, why is it so difficult? It is not because the system is noy good - no one other than US who suffer will agree the system is not working. If you step into the shoes of someone from the other side - you will realise that - things are not easy, especially to deal with Beurocracy.
Will things change? Lets hope for the best - let us atleast do our part by inculcating love and good heartedness in our next generation - let us not tell them - "in history such thing happened thats why I have this opinion and you must also have the same opinion"
